Down below is the message I received from our forum user "limotus" with
some suggestion for which you might have much better answers than me. So
I would like to have the discussion on the mailing list.
--------------------
I understand developers prefer Artix to be command line based as it is
easier to maintain and more stable system as compared to GUIs.
The reason I am suggesting is that I see that Artix deserves and should
be the main and #1 choice Linux distro.
Users in general are not geeks, and even if they are experienced with
Linux, all would prefer a distro that just runs after install. Which is
not the case with Artix. As I install Artix I have to, add, customize
repos, add yay to get chromium browser... you know what I'm talking
about.
Why not make a release that just runs after installation. I am not
suggesting to include LibreOffice during installation, I'd prefer it the
way it is - just the OS and a DE - PLUS repos, configs.... AND pamac.
So a user have an Artix that just works out of the box, and he has a way
to install whatever he wants through pamac.
Sorry, I'm not interfering with the developers business, they are doing
a great job.
BUT I am saying this because I care about Artix and want to see it the
I again assure you I understand developers point of view, but with all
due respect, I believe they are doing this great Artix for USERS not for
developers. and users are just the average Joe who just wants to install
a system that just runs out of the box and browse the internet, listen
to music, watch videos and photos, a dad and mom and even a grand dad
and a grand mom.
Someone told me there are other distros that are beginner/user friendly
and they can go for it! I've been there (latest on MX) but I see Artix
is much better, better performance and better community.
We can have unofficial release(s) that attracts the average Joe and
grandma.
I don't understand why developers don't care about them or don't care
I repeat, I am not criticizing developers or blaming them for anything,
I'll just be happy to see Artix is #1.
I hope nobody takes this personal. It is opensource after all where
developers hears (I won't say listen) to users to guide them or give
hints.
Thank you for your patience and please accept and convey my high
appreciation to you, moderators, developers and everybody working on
this amazing Artix and this amazing community.
Nothing personal in any way. It is all about me caring about Artix and
who is behind it.
Thanks.
