On an artix/arch based system it does work differently. On other distros when you update your kernel, the old kernel does not get removed, which means all the kernel modules and other kernel files are still on the disk. So reboot isn't required right away. However on artix/arch when the new kernel is installed the old one is instantly removed. This means the old kernel modules are deleted. However the kernel running in RAM is still the old kernel and can't use the new kernel's modules and doesn't have the old modules available either. So on artix/arch it is always required to reboot after a kernel update otherwise random stuff may not work. For example docker stops working till reboot after a kernel update.
